Ft. Wayne, IN – The Warriors defeated the Taylor University Trojans on Wednesday, 16-7. The Trojans were unable to capitalize on their extra-man opportunities, while the Warriors were able to cash in on their chances.
Nicholas Lichtsinn (Ft. Wayne) got the Warriors on the board first with his goal at the 13:40 mark and after two Craig Schaepkens (Davison, MI/Davison HS) goals, Tech led 3-0. Both teams traded goals before Taylor scored three straight times to tie the game at 4.
The Warriors responded with four unanswered goals to retake the lead. Lichtsinn added two more scores before the half to give Indiana Tech a 10-5 advantage at the break.
Tech outscored the Trojans 6-2 in the second half with the help of a strong defensive performance. The Warriors held Taylor to only 2-of-11 on extra-man opportunities and limited them to 14 shots in the second half. Jordon Steptoe (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill HS) was big for the Warriors in goal making 12 saves on the night.
Schaepkens led the Warrior attack with five goals and three assists. Lichtsinn tallied four goals and Tony Cremeens (St. Charles, MO/Hazelwood HS) added three. Brent Nichter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers HS) also scored twice while dishing out four assists.
The Warriors are back in action Friday when they travel to John Carroll. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
