Fort Wayne, Ind. – The 16th ranked Indiana Tech men’s lacrosse team will have their shot at retribution on Saturday, April 28 when the Warriors clash with Hope College in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association Playoffs at 5 p.m. on Warrior Field.
The Warriors were unbeaten in the final eight games of the regular season last year before the Flying Dutchmen ended their season in the opening round of the CCLA Playoffs, handing Tech a 19-17 defeat.
Indiana Tech has earned the four-seed in this year’s playoffs after finishing the regular season as the Division II CCLA Central champions for the second straight year with a perfect 4-0 record against divisional opponents and a mark of 8-7 overall.
The Warriors are led by three of the top offensive players in the conference in juniors Brent Nichter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) and Craig Schaepkens (Davison, MI/Davison), and sophomore Josh Puckett (Mason, OH/Mason). Schaepkens ranks third in the CCLA with 72 points this season with 32 goals and 40 assists. Nichter and Puckett are tied for second with 40 goals apiece while Nichter has added 20 assists.
Hope will enter the contest ranked at No. 15 in the MCLA DII Top 25 and the fifth-seed in the playoffs. The Flying Dutchmen ended their regular season slate with a 9-3 overall record and a second place finish in the CCLA North Division behind Davenport University. Hope has won three of its last four games and is led by one of the conference’s leading scorers in sophomore Will Franken.
The winner will move on to the CCLA Final Four at Saline High School in Saline, Michigan on May 4 and will face off against the winner of Grand Valley State University and Oakland University in the semifinals. The CCLA Championship game will be played on May 5.
