Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men’s lacrosse team cruised through pool play of the WHAC Tournament on Sunday held at Davenport University, defeating Aquinas College 24-3 and Lawrence Tech 24-1.
Davenport had also won both of its pool play matches the previous day to set up a WHAC Championship match in the spring with the Warriors.
Against Aquinas, Tech opened up a 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game, but the Saints cut that lead in half a few minutes later. The Warriors got one more goal late in the first quarter to take a 3-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes.
From that point on, it was all Warriors scoring 19 unanswered goals en route to a 24-3 victory.
Junior Josh Puckett (Mason, OH/Mason) led the way with six goals and one assist while senior Josh Ambrose (Brooklyn Park, MN/Armstrong) added three more scores. Brent Nichter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) and Brian Nichter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) dished out three assists apiece and Kyle Goehring (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) grabbed a team-high seven groundballs. Tony Loftus (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) made three saves and Justin Famiglietti (Peabody, MA/Veterans Memorial) made two.
The second game of the day against Lawrence Tech was delayed 45 minutes because of rain and lightning, but that didn’t slow the Warriors down once the game got started. Tech picked up right where they left off against the Saints scoring eight first quarter goals in a 24-1 dismantling of the Blue Devils.
Brian Nichter finished the game with two goals and six assists while Puckett and sophomore Nick Knauf (DeWitt, MI/DeWitt) scored five times each. Senior Adam Macciomei (Davison, MI/Davison) was 9-for-9 on faceoffs and picked up seven groundballs.
The Warriors will play the final game of their fall schedule on Saturday, Oct. 20 against Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana at 11 a.m.
