North Dakota State Box Score | St. Thomas Box Score
St. Paul, Minn. – The 10th ranked Indiana Tech men’s lacrosse team opened their season in Minnesota over the weekend against No. 6 North Dakota State University and No. 1 University of St. Thomas.
On Friday night, the Warriors trailed North Dakota State by one, 13-12, heading into the final quarter, but the Bison shutout Tech over the final 15 minutes while adding three goals to come away with the 16-12 win.
Craig Schaepkens and Dan Schaepkens scored three goals apiece to lead the Warriors while Craig also added two assists. Josh Puckett chipped in two goals and Dylan Johnston finished with one goal, two assists, and three groundballs. Adam Macciomei went 12-for-25 on faceoffs and picked up 10 groundballs.
Tech was right back in action on Saturday night against the defending national champions St. Thomas. Junior netminder Justin Famiglietti was outstanding between the pipes, making big save after big save, and kept the Warriors in the game.
Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, Craig Schaepkens put Tech on the board with a man-up goal before the half to trim the St. Thomas lead to five.
The defenses ruled in the third quarter and Famiglietti continued to be strong in goal, shutting out the Tommies, but the Warriors couldn’t get anything going offensively. St. Thomas would add a goal in the fourth quarter to come away with the 7-1 final.
Famiglietti made 20 saves on the night against the top-ranked Tommies while Johnston finished with an assist and six groundballs.
Up next, the Warriors will host No. 16 Liberty University in their home opener on Friday, Mar. 15. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
