Men’s Soccer Season Review

November 16, 2012

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s soccer team posted its fourth straight 10-win season in 2012 under second year head coach David Bokhart.

The Warriors ended the season with a 10-6-3 record with a 6-2-2 mark in conference play, which tied for third place in the WHAC standings.

For the second straight year, Tech hosted a first round game of the WHAC Tournament where the No. 4-seed Warriors faced No. 5-seed Marygrove College. The Mustangs came out on top though, handing Tech a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime loss to end the Warriors’ season.

Overtime matches were a theme for the Warriors this season, playing in a conference-most nine of them, where the team posted a 2-4-3 record.

Indiana Tech owned one of the top defenses in the conference, allowing just 1.00 goals per game behind Honorable Mention All-Conference goalkeeper Reece Richardson (Halifax, England/Ryburn Valley). The Warriors’ stout defense, anchored by Padraic Ormsby (Wicklow, Ireland/Peninsula), Shane Scrivner (Manchester, England/Northwest), and Tim Short (Brownstown, MI/Baptist Park) shutout seven opponents this season, however, the offense struggled at times only scoring 1.53 goals per game.

The Warriors got off to a tremendous start, winning their first four contests and posting a shutout in each.

Tech would lose its next three, though, with two of them coming in overtime.

Midway through the season, the Warriors were 6-4-2 with a 2-1-2 record in the WHAC before defeating four straight conference opponents, to jump near the top of the league standings.

Indiana Tech’s winning streak set up a key matchup with conference leading Cornerstone University that held major postseason implications. In a very physical, hard fought game, it was the Golden Eagles who pulled out a 1-0 double overtime win with a goal in the 106th minute.

The Warriors capped off the regular season with a 2-2 draw at 16th-ranked Ashford University.

Senior Aultain Gaye (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Central) headlined the list of Warriors receiving WHAC postseason honors, earning a First Team All-Conference selection, while Ormsby joined Richardson on the Honorable Mention Team.

With nine starters returning, the Warriors have a strong core of players to again be one of the top teams in the conference in 2013.
