Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s soccer team honored the top individual and team performances of 2012 during its annual banquet, held Saturday, Jan. 26, at Indiana Tech.
Senior midfielder Bryce Collier (Springfield, MO/Crowder College) earned the “Mettle” Award for inspiring and motivating his teammates. The award is meant to serve as a reminder that life’s challenges are to be met with spirit, fortitude, integrity, gallantry, ardor, effort, resolution, and faith. He played in 16 games with six starts, scoring twice. His versatility and unselfishness were valuable assets as the Warriors completed their fourth-straight double-digit win campaign.
Classmate Aultain Gaye (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Central) took home Offensive MVP honors, following a season that saw him score 10 goals and dish four assists for a team-high 24 points. Three of his 10 goals were match-winners, including the game-winning strike at Aquinas on Oct. 20. The speedy forward drew First Team All-WHAC honors and Second Team NSCAA All-Mideast Region recognition.
Junior goalkeeper Reece Richardson (Halifax, England/Ryburn Valley) collected the team Defensive MVP nod after an Honorable Mention All-WHAC and Second Team NSCAA All-Mideast Region performance in which he started all 19 games. Richardson posted seven shutouts, including three during WHAC play, and anchored a defensive unit that surrendered just 19 goals for a goals-against average of 0.94. He finished the season with 93 saves and a .830 save percentage.
Freshman Zachary St. Aubin (Manteno, IL/Bishop McNamara) earned the varsity Hustle Award. St. Aubin played in all 19 games, drawing 17 starts. He scored four goals, all against league opponents, and finished with two assists. A gritty player, he was respected by teammates for his tireless work rate and ability to battle against bigger, more experience opponents.
Redshirt-sophomore Joseph Langschwager (Milford, OH/Milford), junior Josh Milby (Harrison, OH/Harrison), and junior Patrick Owona (Indianapolis, IN/Holy Cross College) earned reserve team Hustle Award, Defensive MVP, and Offensive MVP awards, respectively.
