RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Two goals in the final two minutes of play gave the Indiana Tech men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Lawrence Tech on Wednesday night at Warrior Field. The Warriors (9-5-1, 3-4) and Blue Devils (2-14, 0-8) fought hard despite the cold, wet conditions after pre-game sleet and rain.
It was a slow first half as the wet conditions played a major factor. Neither team was able to build much of an attack with several players slipping and unable to control the ball. Indiana Tech managed the conditions best, tallying 13 shots and putting seven on frame while Lawrence Tech collected four shots and put three on goal.
It took 61 minutes for the first goal to be scored and it came off the foot of LTU’s Justin Ritchey. Kowaleski stole the ball in the defensive third for the Blue Devils and sent a long pass into the offensive third which Ritchey was able to run on and beat the Warriors goal keeper Mac Baker one on one for the goal.
The Warriors had their best opportunity to score with 18:30 left to play as the keeper lipped and Zachary St. Aubin had an open net, but his shot hit to post and solid defense prevented Nathan Waits from knocking in the rebound attempt and preserving the 1-0 lead.
The Orange and Black continued to push and finally broke through at the 88:11 mark on a corner kick from Padraic Ormsby. Ormsby sent the ball into the box and it sailed over everyone except Nick Didion, who was waiting far post to kick the ball in the net for the equalizer.
It looked as though we were headed for overtime when in the final minute of play Adam Knight dribbled up the far boundary and sent a cross into the box, finding the foot of St. Aubin who didn’t miss this chance, netting the game-winner for the Warriors.
Indiana Tech dominated the game in shots, 24-9 and shots on goal, 13-5, eventually also winning the game late. Baker stopped four shots while Grady Beerck made 10 saved for the Blue Devils.
The Warriors return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a 7 p.m. contest with Cornerstone.
