Fresno, CA – On Tuesday, November 30th, the Indiana Tech Men’s Soccer concluded their 2009 season with a heartbreaking loss to The Master’s College (CA) in the second round of the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship, 1-0. The evenly matched teams had the match decided on a somewhat controversial penalty called late in the first half against the Warriors and the resulting penalty kick was all the Mustangs needed to hold off the Warriors and advance to the next round of the tournament.
The Warriors defense was stellar, often forcing the Mustangs to shoot from a distance and senior goalkeeper Josh Verhulst (Grand Rapids, MI / Wyoming Park HS) squashed any other attempts to find the back of the net. Both teams played with intensity and spirit worthy of a tournament match and the Warriors conclude one of their most successful seasons in team history with a mark of 12-7-3. This is the farthest any men’s soccer team from Tech has advanced in the NAIA soccer tournament. |
