For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, IN – Sophomore Sam Talbot (Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK) scored in the 85th minute to lead the Warriors to a 1-0 win against the Cougars and take home the Shindigz National Soccerfest Trophy.
The #23 Warriors took on Saint Francis Friday night at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival at Hefner Fields in Fort Wayne, IN where every year the two teams battle for the Shindigz National Soccerfest Trophy. In 2008, Tech and Saint Francis tied in double overtime, 1-1, and in 2009 the Cougars won, 1-0, to take home the hardware. This year it belongs to Indiana Tech.
Just like their match against Huntington earlier in the week, Tech was in control for much of the game. The Warriors outshot the Cougars 14-8 and had 11 corner kicks but couldn’t get the shots to go.
At the 85:14 mark, Tech finally found the back of the net. Talbot took a pass from Aultain Gaye (Grand Rapids, MI) and beat the Cougar keeper. Tech keeper Stephen Putek (Lincoln Park, MI) helped the Warriors to another shutout, recording six saves.
The Warriors are back in action September 3rd against Campbellsville University at the Labor Day Tournament at Kreager Park at 7 p.m.
