Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s soccer team won its second straight match on Wednesday night, defeating the University of Michigan-Dearborn 2-1 in conference action.
Sophomores Jared Wilson-Santos (Lansing, MI/Olivet) and Padraic Ormsby (Wicklow, Ireland/Peninsula) each recorded a goal to propel the Warriors to their sixth win of the season.
Indiana Tech is now 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the WHAC while Michigan-Dearborn dropped to 0-4 and 0-1 in league play.
After 65 minutes of scoreless play, Wilson-Santos broke the deadlock at the 65:16 mark with his first tally of the season. Wilson-Santos had just subbed into the game and provided the Warriors with the spark they were looking for, knocking a sliding shot past the UMD goalkeeper.
Just over ten minutes later, Ormsby took a pass from junior Shane Scrivner (Manchester, England/Northwest) and rifled a shot into the back of the net from the top of the 18-yard box to give Tech a two goal cushion.
Ormsby had a chance to put the game away in the 86th minute. After drawing a foul just outside the box, Ormsby blasted the free kick past the wall of defenders in front of him towards the right side of the goal but UMD’s keeper made a terrific diving save to keep the Wolves alive.
Michigan-Dearborn would add a goal with 17 seconds left in the game, but it was too little too late.
The Warriors were in control the match and outshot the Wolves 19-6. Tech also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior keeper Reece Richardson (Halifax, England/Ryburn Valley) made four saves on the night.
The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Detroit, Michigan for a conference matchup with WHAC newcomer Marygrove College.
