Detroit, Mich. – Senior Aultain Gaye’s (Grand Rapids, MI/Grand Rapids Central) second half goal earned the Indiana Tech men’s soccer team a 1-1 draw in its conference matchup with Marygrove College on Wednesday afternoon.
The tie brings Indiana Tech’s record to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the WHAC while Marygrove moved to 4-6-2 overall and 2-0-2 in league play.
Late in the first half, the Mustangs gained the advantage with a goal that sneaked under junior keeper Reece Richardson (Halifax, England/Ryburn Valley).
Gaye knotted the game with Tech’s only goal on an assist from sophomore Jammar Allison (Brampton, Ontario/Davis & Elkins) in the 57th minute. The goal was Gaye’s fifth on the season.
The Mustangs put the pressure on in the extra periods, putting three shots on goal but Richardson was up to the challenge on all of them to preserve the tie. Richardson finished with six saves on the day.
Both teams had their opportunities on goal with Tech’s 14 shots on goal and Marygrove’s 15. The Mustangs also had 14 corner kicks to Tech’s one.
The Warriors return to the field on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host the University of Northwestern Ohio at 3 p.m.
