Warriors Finish with Win

March 13, 2011

For Immediate Release

Greencastle, IN – The Indiana Tech men’s tennis team finished their indoor season right where it started, with a win.  The Warriors defeated a very talented and successful team from Rose-Hulman Institute by a close 5-4 margin.  The win came after competing against two other NCAA programs with a history of winning and NCAA tournament experience.

The Warriors hit the road to travel to DePauw University to play indoors against Ferris State University, host DePauw University and Rose-Hulman Institute.  The weekend of tennis started with Ferris State University, Coach Moster’s alma mater.  The Bulldogs gave Indiana Tech everything they could handle, but despite the Indiana Tech loss, the Warriors were able to play at a high level, which showed their hard work in preparation for the match and their upcoming spring season.

After a day off, the Warriors then started the day with an early morning match against host DePauw University.  The high level of play continued in the match, with some great singles and doubles play.  The match of the day was sophomore Kevin Madden (Waterford, MI/Waterford Kettering) as he put up a great battle losing a close 7-6 6-3.

Following the match, the Warriors reloaded to take on Rose-Hulman.  The team got off to a great start winning two of the three doubles matches and then continued with singles wins from senior Daniel Yamamoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Pueri Demos), Kevin Madden and sophomore Mark Clements (Crawfordsville, IN/North Montgomery).  The three singles wins gave the Warriors the big victory.

It was the first time Indiana Tech had played against Ferris State University and DePauw University and just the second time they had played against Rose-Hulman.  In their previous meeting, during the 2007-08 season, the Warriors were defeated 5-4.  The Warriors now prepare for one final indoor match, the beginning of their outdoor season and conference play.
