Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech’s Joaquin Ferrando and Mounai Sami have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Players of the Week for men’s and women’s tennis.
Ferrando, a freshman from Mar de Plata-Buenos Aires, Argentina, split at Wayne State University winning the No. 1 doubles match 8-6, but losing at the No. 1 singles spot in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 10-6. Against Saint Joseph’s College, Ferrando picked up a pair of victories. He won 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 at No. 1 singles and, with his partner Sriram Aranganathan, won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
On the season, Ferrando is 4-2 in singles competition and 4-2 in doubles.
Sami, a freshman from Casablanca, Morocco, won both of her singles matches this past week against the University of Saint Francis and Saint Joseph’s at the No. 3 position, but fell in both of her No. 1 doubles matches.
Sami is undefeated in singles play this season with a perfect 4-0 record and is 2-2 in doubles.
The men’s tennis team (5-6) returns to action on Mar. 13 in Marion, Indiana against Indiana Wesleyan University and the women’s team (3-4) will host Aquinas College at Wildwood Racquet Club on Mar. 14.
