FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech men’s tennis team improved to 2-0 with a narrow 5-4 victory over NCAA II Tiffin University at Kreager Park on Tuesday night.
It was a great finish to the night, despite a slow start for the Warriors as Joaquin Ferrando defeated Ben Fievet in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to give Tech the victory. It came down to No. 1 singles as the two teams were knotted at four and the intense battle was finally won by Ferrando.
The Orange and Black got off to a shaky start in doubles action losing two of three sets, as Ferrando and partner Gaston Raposo were the lone duo to win, moving to 2-0 on the season, as they downed Agustin Mangone and Nicholas Almeida 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Indiana Tech got wins from Sriram Aranganathan, Raposo and Nicholas Tripanon at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Aranganathan defeated Mangone 3-6, 6-3, 6-0; Raposo took care of Almeida 6-1, 6-3 and Tripanon downed Victor Fernandes 6-0, 6-2.
The Warriors return to the court on Thursday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take part in the USTA/ITA East Regional hosted by Davenport.
