RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s tennis team suffered a heartbreaking loss in their spring season opener, falling to Cardinal Stritch 4-5 at the Wildwood Racquet Club on Friday.
In the top two doubles matches, the Warriors (4-3) suffered hard fought losses, losing at No.1 doubles, 8-5 and No. 2 doubles, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Sriram Aranganathan and Mikel Oscoz defeated Tommy Vang and Donnersson Penna, 8-5.
Singles play was even harder fought and the Warriors looked to be on the verge of making a comeback, but an injury dashed any hopes for Tech, giving the Wolves the victory. At the top spot, Joaquin Ferrando dropped the first set, 6-7, but battled back to win the second, 6-3, before also winning a super-tie-break, 10-6. Raymond Weich downed Aranganathan at No. 2, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 and Kino de Leon also lost in a super-tie-break, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. In the fifth spot, Alberto Tenias defeated Penna in a super-tie-break, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 and Gaston Raposo downed Phillip Meller, 6-2, 6-4.
The Warriors, who received votes in the preseason coaches’ poll, return to the court on Saturday, Mar. 1 when they travel across town to face the Mastodons of IPFW at the Pine Ridge Tennis Club at 7 p.m.
