For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech track & field is proud to announce the signing of two female athletes for the 2013-14 season, Chelsey Wakes from Mishawaka, Indiana and Kenya Williams from Stafford, Virginia.
Chelsey Wakes, of Mishawaka High School, has signed on to bolster the sprints and jumps group. This past season, Chelsey qualified for the Indiana State meet in the 100 running a 12.48 at the regional meet. She has also cleared 5-0 in the high jump and been a member of her schools 4x100 relay.
Coach Edgar on Chelsey: “Chelsey is someone with a ton of upside. She comes from a distance program there at Mishawaka and has never really an opportunity to develop. We anticipate her being a great sprinter for us and could see her on a similar path as Chloe Brooks took with us. She does have the ability to help in the jumps some as well, but her biggest contributions should be on the track. She fit in immediately with our girls’ team and has a strong academic background. We are excited to see her grow in our program.”
Kenya Williams, from North Stafford High School, has signed on to the help the hurdle squad. Kenya owns a career-best of 48.15 in the 300 hurdles, which she ran at last year’s regional meet. She also has experience in the high hurdles.
Coach Edgar on Kenya: “Kenya has a ton of upside. She has the type of build you would want out of your 400 hurdlers and great height. We are confident she will be a better college hurdler then she was in high school. She reminds me a lot of Russell Dill who used to hurdle for us in that she has all the tools, but just really needs to get to college and we will see huge development. Training with All-American Zalika Dixon will help her growth and allow her to get the most out of her training. We are very excited to see Kenya as a Warrior next season.”
