Geneva, Ohio – Indiana Tech continued its impressive start at the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Warrior men are in second place in the team standings, just two points behind current leader Doane University, while the women are tied for sixth place.
Tech has crowned All-Americans in five events so far, three on the men’s side and two on the women’s.
Herb Gary and David Army took second and third in the high jump. Gary cleared 7-1.75, which tied shattered his previous school record, while Army hit 6-9.75. Darryl Marlow also grabbed a second place finish with his leap of 23-5.5 in the long jump.
The 4x800 meter relay team consisting of Matt Adair, Seth Spangler, Brandon Reynard, and Nick Radionofr finished in fifth place with a time of 7:44.57.
Earning All-American status for the women were freshman Jeslyn Zimmerly and sophomore Ashley Watley. Zimmerly cleared 11-11.75 in the pole vault to place third and Watley hit a new school record mark of 18-8.5 in the long jump to place fourth.
Back on the track, Shayla France qualified for the finals in the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a 8.56 while Robert Rose qualified for the men’s finals in the event with a 8.10.
Adella King leads a pack of four Warrior sprinters into the finals of the women’s 60-meter dash. Dontaey Paige is also through to the finals on the men’s side.
King, France, Zalika Dixon, and Chloe Brooks qualified for the women’s 200-meter dash finals, and Paige and John Broaden made it for the men.
Making it into the 400-meter dash finals are Dixon, Brooks, and Shayne Armbrister for the women and Rose, Dareyus Person, and Austen Barnes are in for the men.
Nick Radionoff ran a 1:20.56 in the 600-meter run preliminaries to secure his spot in the finals.
The final day of action begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the field events followed by the championship ceremonies at noon. The awards ceremony will be conducted at approximately 4:30 p.m.
