Tech Upsets #11 Georgetown to Open Boneyard Brawl

October 26, 2012

For Immediate Release

Georgetown, Ky. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team continued its impressive play with a pair of victories over Georgetown College and Point Park University during day one of the Boneyard Brawl hosted by Georgetown.

The Warriors, who had lost to both squads earlier in the year at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Earlybird Challenge, returned the favor on Friday in the 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 15-25, 25-23, 15-9) upset of the 11th ranked Georgetown Tigers followed by a 3-1 (25-19, 15-25, 25-22, 25-16) win over #RV Point Park.

Sophomore Christine Foest (Welland, Ont./Notre Dame HS) had a breakout game against the Tigers, recording a season-high 21 kills to lead the Warriors. The 6-3 outside hitter also picked up three digs and three solo blocks.

Kelsey Cox (Flushing, MI/Grand Rapids) and Stacy Nagy (Temperance, MI/Bedford) also posted double-digit kills, hammering down 14 and 10 kills respectively. Junior setter Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Holland, OH/Notre Dame Academy) directed the high-powered offense with 48 assists and added a team-high 20 digs.

There wasn’t much time to celebrate though with a matchup against the Point Park Pioneers waiting ahead. But the Warriors came out ready to play, taking the opening set by a score of 25-19. A let down in the second set tied the match, but a tight 25-22 win in set three propelled the Warriors to a 25-16 win in the fourth set to take the match.

Nagy paced the team with 16 kills.  Three other players joined her in double figures, including Cox with 12 and Kelsea Nova (Toledo, OH/Bowsher) and Suzanne Taylor (Petersburg, MI/Ida) with 10 apiece.  Fitzpatrick finished with 42 assists and Darcie Faylor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Kishwaukee) picked up 20 digs.

Since dropping seven of their first 10 matches to open the season, including a 0-6 mark against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, the Warriors have gone 19-2 with a 6-0 record against teams ranked or receiving votes.

Indiana Tech (22-9) will conclude play at the Boneyard Brawl on Saturday with matchups against No. 15 Indiana University East and Lindsey Wilson College.
