Fort Wayne, Ind. – Coming off two big wins on Friday at the Georgetown College Boneyard Brawl, the Indiana Tech volleyball team had another big hill to climb to open play on Saturday against No. 15 Indiana University East followed by a matchup with Lindsey Wilson College.
The Warriors, who had never lost to Indiana East, fell for the first time against the Red Wolves in eight all-time matches 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22).
Seniors Kelsey Cox (Flushing, MI/Grand Rapids) and Kelsea Nova (Toledo, OH/Bowsher) paced the offense with nine kills apiece. Christine Foest (Welland, Ont./Notre Dame HS) followed with eight.
Setter Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Holland, OH/Notre Dame Academy) dished out 27 assists and Darcie Faylor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Kishwaukee) had a team-high 13 digs.
Indiana Tech bounced back though with a thrilling four-set victory over Lindsey Wilson College (32-30, 25-20, 25-27, 25-17).
Kelsey Fitzpatrick directed the offense with 48 assists. Kelsey Cox had a team-high 19 kills while Suzanne Taylor (Petersburg, MI/Ida) added 13 and Christine Foest chipped in 11. Darcie Faylor scooped up 20 digs and Kayla Foreman (Decatur, IN/Adams Central) finished with eight.
The Warriors finished the tournament with a 3-1 record with wins over No. 11 Georgetown College, #RV Point Park University, and Lindsey Wilson, who had been in the rankings for most of the year. For their efforts, Kelsey Cox and Christine Foest were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Indiana Tech (23-10, 8-1 WHAC) concludes its regular season slate this week with huge conference matchups with No. 16 Madonna University and #RV University of Northwestern Ohio. The three teams are tied at the top of the WHAC standings with 8-1 records, and this week will decide the league’s regular season champion.
