Livonia, Mich. – The 3rd-seeded Indiana tech volleyball team’s season came to an end on Saturday after suffering a 3-0 loss to 2nd-seeded Davenport University in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals, ending a run of three straight tournament titles for the Warriors.
Tech was looking for redemption after falling to the Panthers in a thrilling four set loss at Davenport earlier this season, and this afternoon’s match started very similarly. It was back and forth with neither team able to take control.
With the score tied 12-12, it was Davenport who finally got some momentum going winning six of the next seven points to take a 18-13 lead.
The Warriors continued to fight though, clawing their way back into the game and cutting the DU lead to two, 22-20. But the Panthers managed to hold off the charge and take the opening set.
Davenport controlled most of the second set, building a 16-10 advantage on their way to winning the set.
With the season on the line, the Warriors battled DU to 19-19. The Panthers took the next two points though, and held on for the victory.
Leading the way for the Warriors was senior Kelsey Cox (Flushing, MI/Grand Rapids) with 11 kills followed by sophomore Christine Foest (Welland, ON/Notre Dame HS) with 10. Junior Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Holland, OH/Notre Dame Academy) handed out 35 assists and senior Darcie Faylor (Ft. Wayne, IN/Kishwaukee) picked up 21 digs.
Indiana Tech ended the season with a 25-12 overall record with a 9-2 mark in league play, and finished in a tie for second place in the WHAC standings. It was also the seventh straight 20-win season for the Warriors.
