MARION, Ind. – The Indiana Tech volleyball team is still looking for their second win in 2013 after going 0-4 at the IWU-TU Crossover Tournament this weekend, including an 0-2 afternoon on Saturday.
The Warriors fell to 1-7 on the day after losing in four sets to Olivet Nazarene (2-5) and then in three sets to 21st-ranked Indiana Wesleyan (5-3).
The Warriors opened play on Saturday at the IWU-TU Crossover against Olivet Nazarene and lost in four sets 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-27) with all three losses by just two points.
Once again Tech failed to amass a hitting percentage above .200, turning in a .158 committing 26 errors and just 47 kills. Christine Foest (Welland, Ontario) led the team with 11 kills while Stacy Nagy (Temperance, Mich.) and Suzanna Taylor (Petersburg, Mich.) each added nine. Senior setter Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Holland, Ohio) led the team with 19 assists while Emileen Palka (Sylvania, Ohio) added eight.
Taylor Kelso (Crestline, Ohio), the libero for the Orange and Black, led the team with 12 digs while Cassandra Sarabia (Rossford, Ohio) added 10. The Warriors also tallied eight blocks with Foest recording two solo and Shanice Richards (Boynton Beach, Fla.) tallying three assists.
In their second match of the day Tech faced #21 IWU and didn’t fare much better falling in straight sets (18-25, 16-25, 13-25). Facing their third ranked team this season the Warriors were no match for the Wildcats.
Tech had its worst attack percentage of the season, .044, as they committed 21 errors while converting 25 kills. Meanwhile, the Wildcats hit .350 committing just 10 errors and converting 45 kills.
Taylor led the team with seven kills and Fitzpatrick once again tallied double digit assists with 14. On defense Kelso tallied 11 digs and Sarabia added eight for the Warriors who failed to record a service ace and had just two team blocks in their final match.
Indian Tech returns to the court on Friday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to take part in the Lee Tournament. The Warriors will open with a 2:15 p.m. match against Coastal Georgia before facing the hosts, Lee Flames at 7:15 p.m.
