Warriors Keep Liz Lykowski Trophy at Home
Fort Wayne, IN-- The Warriors came up big this past weekend in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament, going 4-0 on the weekend and winning their own tournament, dropping only 1 set for the entire weekend.
Indiana Tech started the weekend strong beating University of Northwestern Ohio 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) and hitting .333 as a team. The Warriors were led by sophomore Ashley Hamilton with 15 kills and 12 digs, hitting a .529. Sophomore setter Melanie Forman dished out the offense with 34 assists, 2 kills, and 7 digs. Junior middle blocker Erika Stouder chipped in 9 digs and freshman middle blocker Jasmine Battle contributed 8 kills.
Indiana Tech faced cross-town rival St. Francis in the second match on Friday night, beating the Cougars 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-17) and hitting a .329 as a team. The Warriors were led by sophomore Ashley Hamilton with 11 kills and 9 digs, hitting a .429 for the night. Hamilton also had 4 aces. Junior Erika Stouder followed with 9 kills, hitting a .533 and senior Ashley Jenkins chipped in 7 kills hitting a .429. Melanie Forman had 27 assists and 8 digs.
On Saturday morning of the tournament, the Warriors started the day in a 4 set battle with #6 Georgetown, with the Warriors coming out on top to clinch the tournament championship. The match proved to a be a tough battle with 3 of the 4 sets going to overtime points. The Warriors won with scores of 25-27, 26-24, 28-26, 25-21.
The Warriors were led by a great performance from junior outside hitter Samantha Larson who came up big for the match with 20 kills and 10 digs. She was followed by Ashley Hamilton with 15 kills and 18 digs and Erika Stouder with 13 kills hitting a .522 in the match. Sophomore libero Kayla Hartman had a fantastic night leading the back court with 29 digs and 1 ace. Melanie Forman put up 55 assists, 3 kills, and 7 digs for the match. The Warriors hit a .232 for the match and held Georgetown to a .123 hitting percentage.
Indiana Tech finished the weekend and the claim for the Tournament Title by beating St. Ambrose 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-21). The Warriors were led by Samantha Larson with 11 kills and 5 aces and Erika Stouder with 10 kills. The back court was led by Kayla Hartman with 19 digs while Ashley Hamilton and freshman Emily Hunter picked up 12 digs each. Melanie Forman had 30 assists, 2 kills, and 9 digs for the match.
Ashley Hamilton was named MVP of the tournament and Melanie Forman was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Warriors are now 15-7 overall and 4-0 in the WHAC.
