RESULTS | LIMA, Ohio – Despite winning the first match, the Indiana Tech volleyball team fell to the University of Northwestern Ohio in four sets, 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 20-25, 21-25) to conclude their regular season on Wednesday night at Racer Gymnasium.
After winning the first point of set number one, the Warriors (11-22, 5-6) trailed 5-2, and then won five of the next seven points to tie the set at seven. The teams tied six more times in the set, the last coming at 19-19 which is when Tech won five of the final six points, capped by a Kelsey Fitzpatrick ace.
The second game was similar to the first with the teams tying three times in the early going, the last being at four. The Racers (21-7, 7-4) took a 5-4 lead and then ran away with the set winning 25-18. With the momentum on their side, UNOH won six of the first eight points in the third game and never looked back, despite a late charge by the Warriors, winning 25-20. It was another close game in the final set with several ties with the final coming again at 19 points, with the Racers winning six of the final eight points to seal the match.
The Orange and Black had one of their better hitting performances of the season, hitting .206, however, the Racers hit .303 for the match. Tech did hold a decisive advantage in blocks, 10-5, but weren’t able to put the Racers away.
Suzanne Taylor and Stacy Nagy led the Warriors with 10 kills each with Nagy hitting a team-high .368 in the match. Christine Foest added nine kills while Katelyn St. Martin tallied eight. Fitzpatrick led the team in assists with 21 while Alexandra Roberts tallied 17.
Taylor Kelso collected 12 digs to pace the Warriors back row with St. Martin adding 11. Alexis Morrison led the way at the net with two solo blocks and three block assists with Nagy tallying one solo block and four block assists as well.
The Warriors will return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 13 when they host Lawrence Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament at 7 p.m.
