Fort Wayne, In-- The Lady Warrior Volleyball Team was put to the test this weekend in the WHAC Championships. After finishing the regular season undefeated in conference play (14-0) the ladies earned a first round bye and the opportunity to host the semi-finals and finals at home. Just squeaking by Cornerstone in 5 games Friday, the Warriors faced No. 22 Madonna for a third time- this time for the conference tournament title and an automatic bid to nationals.
The third meeting between the top two teams in the conference lived up to the billing as Tech needed all five sets to claim the postseason title. The Lady Warriors jumped to the early lead, winning the first two sets 28-26 and 25-20. Madonna rallied to win the next set 26-24 to make it 2-1 and was able to hold the momentum during the next set, winning 25-23 tying the match at two sets a piece. The deciding set favored Tech as the Warriors won 15-6 for the tournament championship.
WHAC Commissioner, Andy Jugan, was in attendance to present the Lady Warriors with both their WHAC regular season trophy as well at the Tournament Championship trophy. Ashley Hamilton was presented as the WHAC player of the year accompanied by Indiana Tech head coach, Kirsta Solberg receiving coach of the year honors.
