Upland, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s basketball team stayed with 22nd ranked Taylor University for most of the game, but the Trojans were able to pull away over the final six minutes to hand the Lady Warriors an 89-74 setback on Saturday.

Tech slipped to 1-6 on the year with the loss while Taylor remained unbeaten and moved to 7-0.

Rachael Kruse (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) scored seven of the first nine points for the Warriors, giving Tech a 9-7 edge, but the Trojans would use an 8-0 run to regain the lead.

With Taylor ahead 35-29 and 1:10 left until halftime, Chelsea Carradine (Redford, MI/Thurston) put in two of her season-high 17 points and Sabine Filippovica (Linibazi, Latvia/Independence) had a put-back bucket at the buzzer to pull the Warriors within two, 35-33, at the break.

The Trojans began the second half on a 12-4 run to open a 10 point lead, but the Warriors continued to battle and trimmed the deficit to four, 59-55, midway through the period.

Taylor maintained a slim 65-60 lead at the 8:35 mark and following almost a three minute scoring drought from both teams, Carradine sank a free throw to get Tech within four, 65-61, with just over six minutes to play.

However, the home team would outscore the Warriors 24-13 over the final six minutes to hang on for the win.

Indiana Tech shot 45 percent from the field and hit 41 percent (7-for-17) of their three-point shots, but Taylor shot 54 percent for the game with seven three’s. TU also held a slight edge in rebounding, grabbing 37 compared to Tech’s 33.

Three Tech players finished the day scoring in double figures, led by Ulyssia Richmond (Temple Hills, MD/Riverdale Baptist) with 26 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including five three-pointers. Carradine followed with 17 and Kruse added 15. Carradine also added a team-high six rebounds.

The Lady Warriors open a three-game homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when they welcome conference foe University of Michigan-Dearborn to the Schaefer Center in a 5:30 p.m. tip.
