St. Mary-of-the-Woods Box Score | Spring Arbor Box Score
Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Lady Warriors closed out 2012 with a bang at the annual Indiana Tech SportONE Shootout over the weekend, winning back-to-back games against St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and Spring Arbor University.
On Friday night, Tech sprinted out to a 14-0 lead against the Pomeroys of St. Mary-of-the-Woods and cruised to a 108-89 victory.
Rachael Kruse (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) and Ulyssia Richmond (Temple Hills, MD/Riverdale Baptist) paced the Warriors with 23 and 21 points each. Richmond added five rebounds and six assists. Also finishing in double figures were Chelsea Carradine (Redford, MI/Thurston) with 15 points while Kaneisha Bass (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Trail) chipped in 12 with a game-high eight rebounds.
Carradine continued her impressive play on Saturday, matching her career-high with 18 points to lead Tech to a 66-60 win over Spring Arbor.
The Warriors fell behind early but took a lead midway through the first half that they would never surrender. Carradine hit a jumper in the paint in the final minute of the first half to give Tech a 35-27 advantage at halftime. The Warriors would push the lead to as many as 13 in the second half, but the Cougars had one final push in them.
After Spring Arbor closed the deficit to just four, 64-60, with 17 seconds left in the contest, the Warriors would make a big defensive stop and freshman Rayana Villalpando (Bellflower, CA/Downey) sank a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
Carradine registered her first double-double of the season, adding 11 boards to her 18 points. Richmond followed with 15 points and Bass contributed 13.
The Lady Warriors (5-10, 3-4 WHAC) open the New Year with a conference matchup against Marygrove College (1-11, 0-7 WHAC) on Jan. 2 in the Schaefer Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.
