Southfield, Mich. – Junior Chelsea Carradine (Redford, MI/Thurston) scored the go-ahead basket with eight seconds left to lift the Indiana Tech women’s basketball team to a 66-60 victory over Lawrence Tech University in a conference tilt on Saturday afternoon.

On the ensuing possession by Lawrence Tech, the Blue Devils attempted a game-tying shot but was rejected by Rachael Kruse (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) to help seal the win.

Indiana Tech improved its record to 9-12 overall and 7-6 in WHAC play while LTU dropped to 5-12 and 3-10 in the conference.

Kruse helped get the Warriors out to an early 19-8 lead, scoring 11 points in the first ten minutes of the game. However, the Blue Devils would erase the 11 point deficit and go into halftime at 27-27.

Lawrence Tech opened the second half on an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the afternoon. The Blue Devils maintained their lead despite a couple runs by the Warriors and held an eight point margin, 54-46, with just under four minutes to play.

Just like Wednesday night against Madonna though, Preonda Reese (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) would knock down a big three to spark a Tech rally. The Warriors went on a 12-2 run capped off with a three-pointer from Kaneisha Bass (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Trail) to give the team its first lead since late in the opening period with 1:34 remaining on the clock.

With the score tied 60-60 in the closing seconds, the Warriors missed a go-ahead three, but Carradine ripped down the rebound and put it back up and in to take the lead. Kruse would block the Lawrence Tech shot on the other end, and Bass and Ulyssia Richmond (Temple Hills, MD/Riverdale Baptist) would convert their free throws to send the Warriors home with the win.

Indiana Tech shot 37 percent (14-for-35) for the game while Lawrence Tech hit 41 percent (14-for-30). The Blue Devils held a small edge on the glass grabbing 41 rebounds to Tech’s 40, but the Warriors forced LTU into three more turnovers.

Carradine ended the day with her fifth double-double of the season scoring 14 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Kruse dropped a team-high 19 points while recording three blocks. Bass followed with 12 points and Richmond added 10 points and nine boards.

The Warriors will travel to Dearborn, Michigan for a conference matchup with the Wolves of the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, Jan. 23 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
