Highland Park, Mich. – Behind a 20 point effort from Ulyssia Richmond (Temple Hills, MD/Riverdale Baptist) and a career-high 18 from Kaneisha Bass (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Trail), the Indiana Tech women’s basketball team defeated Marygrove College 74-44 in conference play on Wednesday night in the Ford Field House.
Richmond and Bass had a huge first half, combining for 25 points, to help build a 19 point lead at the intermission and cruise to the victory.
The Warriors climbed to 12-15 on the year and 10-9 in the WHAC while Marygrove dropped to 1-24 overall and 0-19 in league play.
Tech pulled in front 14-9 midway through the first half, but three straight points from Bass led to a 19-4 run over the next seven minutes, which Richmond capped off with five consecutive points, to extend the margin to 20.
After taking a 39-20 lead into halftime, the Warriors continued to pile on the points, opening the second period with a 14-2 run. From there, Tech would roll to the win, ending a its three game slide.
The Warriors finished the night shooting 41 percent (18-for-43) from the field compared to Marygrove’s 27 percent (18-for-65). Tech was also dominant on the glass, racking up 57 rebounds to 35 by the Mustangs.
Bass had a near perfect shooting night going 7-for-8 from the floor and adding 11 rebounds to her 18 points. Chelsea Carradine (Redford, MI/Thurston) notched her sixth double-double of the season recording 12 points and a game-high 13 boards. Sabine Filippovica (Linibazi, Latvia/Independence) dished out seven assists to go along with her nine rebounds.
Indiana Tech returns home to welcome WHAC rival University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 9 beginning at 1 p.m. The Warriors will be promoting cancer awareness by hosting a Think Pink day, where the Lady Warriors will wear special pink warm-ups. All proceeds from the admissions gate will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
