| Warriors Save Best for Last |
2/25/09 – The Women’s Basketball team entered the WHAC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday as the number 7 seed and walked away with a near upset over the two seed and nationally ranked # 9 Cornerstone University Golden Eagles. Led by Freshman LeShea McCoy (Mansfield, OH / Mansfield) and her 11 points, the Warriors trailed at half by 6 (35-26). In the second half, the Warriors stormed out of the gate and quickly claimed the lead early in the second half. Tech and Cornerstone exchanged leads until a late surge put the Warriors on top with 2:54 to go with a nine point lead. The Golden Eagles chipped away at Tech’s lead and held a two point advantage in the final seconds of the game before a clutch basket from sophomore Katie Stewart (Eugene, OR / Williamette HS) tied the game and sent the game into overtime, 71-71. In overtime, the Golden Eagles hit their shots but the Warriors could not and the game went to Cornerstone, 80-73. McCoy led the Warriors with 20 points and 8 rebounds and junior Hannah Thieke (Kokomo, IN / Western) chipped in 16 points and 6 boards. The Warriors finish the season 10-19 and improved + 9 over last year’s record (1-30). Congratulations to the members of the women’s basketball team on their 2008-09 season! |
