GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has announced its weekly award winners and Indiana Tech women’s basketball forward Chelsea Carradine was named the WHAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. It’s the Warriors second straight award after Sabine Filippovica won the same award last week.
The senior from Redford, Mich. had a career week despite the team’s 1-2 record. The 5-foot-9 forward averaged 23.3 points and 13.3 rebounds in three games, scoring 70 points and grabbing 40 rebounds. Carradine begin the week with consecutive double-doubles, netting 24 points in back-to-back against Huntington (Nov. 19) and Aquinas (Nov. 21) while grabbing 15 rebounds against the Foresters and then a season-high 17 boards in the 85-66 win over the Saints. She finished the week with 22 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Lawrence Tech (Nov. 23).
Carradine shot 70 percent (24-for-34) from the field and finished 22-for-23 (95.7%) from the free throw line. She added three assists and three steals as well.
Carradine ranks 10th in NAIA Division II with 4.2 offensive rebounds per game and is 11th in field goal percentage (.613). The Warriors (5-4, 2-1) are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 26 with a WHAC match-up at the University of Michigan-Dearborn with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
