RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It was a defensive battle between Indiana Tech and the visiting Saints of Siena Heights on Saturday. Ultimately, though, it was in overtime that the Warriors emerged victorious winning with 2.3 seconds left with a jumper from Chelsea Carradine in the middle of the paint from an assist by Rayana Villalpando to make the final score 69-67 Indiana Tech.
The first half began slowly but a run from the Warriors, and 11 first half points from Rachael Kruse and 9 points by Ulyssia Richmond helped Tech take the lead into the break 35-24.
The second half continued with the same defensive trend as the Warriors and Saints traded baskets off and on for the first 5:21 of the second half. At the 14:39 mark was when the Saints made their run charging on a 20-4 run over the next 9 minutes and 37 seconds. Carradine calmly made a jumper to spark the warriors and get them back on track with 5:02 left in regulation. Kruse followed with a jumper of her own shortly there after.
There was no clear leader between the Saints and the Warriors at the end of the 2nd half as neither team could keep a solid lead. With 8 seconds left on the clock, the score stood at 55-54 for the Warriors. A Warrior foul sent the Saints Sierra Calhoun to the for two attempts. The first was was missed, but the second one was made resulting in a 55-55 tie and overtime.
Overtime was another story on both sides as it was a competition from the behind the arc. A 3 point basket by Grace Howrigon put the Saints ahead 62-61. With one minute left in overtime the Saints struck again from behind the arc again giving Siena Heights the lead by 4,65-61. However, the Warriors offense was not ready to give up quite yet as Richmond drained a 3 from behind the arc with 50 seconds remaining. The Warriors had a crucial stop on the defensive end of the floor with 18.9 seconds remaining on the clock. Carradine took control with an and one finish on a lay up and the free throw. That bucket and free throw put Indiana Tech up 67-65. The Saints, Calhoun took the ball right back down the court and converted going strong to the basket tying the game up yet again at 67 all. With 9 seconds remaining Rayana Villalpando recieved the inbound pass and drove down the court finding Carradine in the middle of the lane to put the icing on the cake with a silky smooth turn around jumper with only 2.3 remaining to make the score 69-67 Warriors.
The Warriors were led by Kruse who scored 20 points. It was another big game for Sabine Fillipovica as she scored 17, 12 huge rebounds and 2 blocks, while Carradine and Richmond scored 15 a piece. The bench was not much help for the Warriors as they only brought 2 points from Taylor Carver.
Siena Heights was led by Howrigon who put 17 on the board and right behind was Jessie Arnold with 14.
