RESULTS | FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Led by a career-high 25 points from Chelsea Carradine, who also grabbed 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season, the Indiana Tech women’s basketball team defeated Lawrence Tech 78-59 at the Schaefer Center on Saturday.
The Warriors (11-9, 8-4) led from the opening tip, scoring the game’s first nine points, before stretching the lead to 19, 26-7 with 12:56 to play. The Blue Devils (7-9, 5-7) didn’t fold though, finishing the half on a 21-9 run to cut the Tech lead to seven, 35-28 at the break.
The Orange and Black outscored LTU in the point 18-8 and in second chance points, 7-4, but the Blue Devils did win in points off turnovers, 11-6.
After the break, the Warriors got hot again, opening the period on a 19-5 run with Carradine and Rachael Kruse accounting for 10 of the 19 points to stretch the lead to 21, 54-33. The Blue Devils got to within 14 points with 6:52 left, but a 13-3 run by the Warriors increased the lead to a game-high 25 points, 76-51. Free throws down the stretch and a Erin Cater three with 40 seconds to play accounted for the final margin of 19 points, 78-59.
Indiana Tech outscored LTU 46-24 in the paint and outrebounded the Blue Devils 45-38 in the victory. The Orange and Black shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63) from the field, 20 percent (4-for-20) from three and 14-for-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe. The defense limited LTU to 31.7 percent (19-for-60) from the floor, 17.6 percent (3-for-17) from behind the arc and 18-for-26 from the line.
Carradine led the way with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Kruse finished with 21 and Ulyssia Richmond added 13. Maegan Branham paced the Blue Devils with 15 points.
The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they host Michigan-Dearborn at 6 p.m.
