Garrison Selected for Red Cross Leadership Program

June 20, 2012

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech is proud to announce that Megan Garrison (Burlington, IN/Carroll) has been selected as Indiana Tech’s second representative to participate in the 2012-13 Red Cross/NAIA Collegiate Leadership Program, joining Baily Tom (Monroe, MI/Jefferson).

Garrison is an accounting major from Burlington, Indiana for the women’s golf team.

“Megan will be a tremendous representative of Indiana Tech,” said head women’s golf coach Kelly Mettert.  “She has been an excellent student, has participated in Blessings in a Backpack, and given a special talk to elementary kids about staying in school and how college has helped her prepare for life. She is also one of our team captains and has been a joy to work with over the last few years.  She will succeed at whatever endeavor that she chooses to attack as she goes on in life.”

Garrison was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete for her academic excellence this past year, as well as a WHAC Academic All-Conference award winner.

On the golf course, she is a three-time All-Conference selection, won five out of 14 events this season, and has won 10 events in her three year career so far at Tech.

The initiative is now in its sixth year, and will inspire, motivate and create a new and diverse generation of American Red Cross volunteers and leaders through exemplifying the five core values of the NAIA Champions of Character program.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows NAIA student-athletes to be a part of a team made up of young adults from NAIA campuses throughout the country. The program is part of a larger Red Cross diversity strategy for moving the Red Cross from awareness to action, building Red Cross capacity to serve all Americans. Student-athletes will learn from civic and business leaders how to uncover their leadership potential off the field.

The participants will organize successful campus blood drives, actively participate on a leadership board, and take part in diversity and cultural competency training.
