Romulus, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women’s golf team finished second at the WHAC Jamboree #2 on Saturday on the strength of Megan Garrison’s (Cutler, IN/Carroll) third tournament win of the season.
The Warriors were in third place after Friday’s opening round score of 338, but improved their score by 13 strokes in round two. The team’s two-day total of 663 was just one shot off the winner Madonna University. Aquinas College finished third with a 664.
Halfway through the conference slate, Tech remains in first place in the WHAC standings by seven strokes over Aquinas.
Garrison continued her terrific senior campaign, turning in rounds of 79 and 80 to win the event by four shots. She currently leads the conference for WHAC Medalist honors by seven shots over teammate Lizzie Campbell (Sydney, Australia/Sceggs Redlands) with two WHAC Jamborees to play.
In four tournaments this season, Garrison has been simply dominant winning three and finishing second once.
Campbell had another solid outing. The freshman finished in sixth place after shooting 84/81 for a 165 two-day total. Sophomore Julia Browning (Cantrall, IL/Athens) also landed in the top-10 for the third time this season. Browning carded an 87 after the first round, but bounced back with a 79 on day two, which tied Garrison for the lowest 18-hole score of the weekend.
Sophomore Haley Larson (Enon, OH/Greenon) placed 17th with a 36-hole total of 173 and junior Hannah Starkey (Rochester, IN/Rochester) followed in 30th with a 189.
The Warriors return to action on Monday, Sept. 24 in South Bend, Indiana for the first round of the Bethel College Invitational at Blackthorn Golf Club.
