Box Score|FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech women’s golf team ended day one of the Illinois College Invitational in first place with a 314 on Saturday.
For the second consecutive tournament, the Warriors freshman trio of Wiebke Schlender (Paderborn, Germany), Courtney Dye (Williamsburg, Mich.) and Tamina Römer(Dusseldorf, Germany) led the Orange and Black to a 24 stroke lead as all three finished day one in the top three.
Schlender is your day one leader after carding an even-par 72, two shots ahead of Dye who is in second after a two-over par 74. Römer finished her round tied for third after shooting an eight-over 80, six shots behind Schlender. Rachel George (Gahanna, Ohio) carded an 18-hole 88 to tie for 18th and Tina Mettert (New Haven, Ind.) rounded out the scoring for Tech with a 93, tied for 34th.
The Warriors currently lead the event over Rend Lake Community College who carded an opening round 338, six shots better than UW-Platteville (344) who sits third. Millikin sits in fourth with a 350 and Clarke rounds out the top five with a 351.
Round two will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning as the Illinois College Invitational concludes play at The Links of Jacksonville.
