INDIVIDUAL | TEAM | SOUTH BEND, Ind. –The Indiana Tech women’s golf team had another impressive start, finishing round one of the Battle at Blackthorn atop the leaderboard on Friday night. The Warriors shot a 322 (+34) in the first round, led by freshman Wiebke Schlender who currently leads the event.
Schlender shot a three-over par 75 and leads the event by two strokes while the Warriors two other talented freshman, Tamina Römer and Courtney Dye, are also in the top-10 as they fired 81 and 82, respectively, and are finished sixth and ninth.
Also scoring for the Warriors were Rachel George who carded a first-round 84 and Haley Larson shot a 97 on the first day.
Schlender holds a three shot lead over host Bethel’s Laura Glass while the Orange and Black hold a five shot lead over Bethel as they shot a first round 327. Madonna sits in third with a 329 while St. Francis (Ill.) (342), Olivet Nazarene (343) and Aquinas (343) round out the top five.
