For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team will begin their 2013 campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 26 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan when they scrimmage against the Wolverines of the University of Michigan. The Warriors will then have a couple days rest before they play their first regular season game at McKendree University on Saturday, Mar. 2.
The Warriors look to build off of their 14-win season where they were the National Women’s Lacrosse League (NWLL) regular season champions. Tech also had an impressive postseason run in the NWLL Tournament, but fell in the championship game to SCAD in triple overtime.
At the helm for Indiana Tech is first-year Head Coach Emily Shreeve. Shreeve and her Warriors had a tremendous fall posting a perfect 4-0 record and will look to carry over that success into the spring.
Key returners for the Warriors are seniors Holly Holod and Chelsea Olson, and juniors Kendall Guthrie and Autumn McMillin. Guthrie was the team leader in points with 88, followed by McMillin with 64, Olson with 54, and Holod added 43 for the Warriors. Olson, Guthrie, and McMillin all tied for the team leaders in assists (14).
Another key asset to the Warriors is senior goalkeeper Ashley Elvey. During the fall season she held Michigan State to one goal, and her presence between the pipes this season will hopefully put Tech on the winning side of the championship game. Also helping on the defensive side for the Warriors are Emily Bell and Delaney McIntyre. The two have a vast understanding of what the attack will do and are able to execute defensive strategies with precision.
Look for newcomers are Aubri Hazen and Alexa Winter, both of which will be playing midfield and attack, to make an immediate impact. Hazen is a natural athlete who understands how to be a scorer and also a playmaker to set up her teammates. Winter’s speed makes her an offensive threat that will give the Warriors a great transition game.
This is the inaugural season for women’s lacrosse in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the Warriors first conference game is on Mar. 9 when they travel to Davenport University.
