Lebanon, Ill. – Indiana Tech Head Coach Emily Shreeve got her coaching career started off right with a season opening 17-6 win at McKendree University on Saturday.
The game featured another storyline as well with Coach Shreeve coaching against former North Carroll High School teammate Brittany Poist, who is the head coach of the first-year program at McKendree.
Junior Kendall Guthrie put Tech on top quickly though, scoring the first goal just 15 seconds into the contest. Midway through the first half, the Warriors held a 6-1 lead.
McKendree capitalized on a free position shot to cut the deficit to four, but the Warriors would end the period with six unanswered goals, including one by senior Clea Endres with only four seconds before the horn.
Alexis DiGiovanni took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the second half to extend Tech’s lead to 13-2. Guthrie followed a few minutes later with her second strike of the day as the Warriors cruised to the victory.
The Warriors had a balanced attack getting goals from 12 different players. Holly Holod and Aubri Hazen finished with two goals and one assist each. Nikki Rottell and Autumn McMillin also tallied two goals apiece. Goalies Ashley Elvey and Gabby Young were solid between the pipes allowing two goals and recording three saves apiece.
Indiana Tech returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 7 in Chicago, Illinois for a non-conference game against Robert Morris University beginning at 7 p.m.
