Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team remained unbeaten in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play with a 13-11 win at Aquinas College on Saturday.
The Warriors moved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the WHAC while Aquinas slipped to 1-3 and 0-1 in league play.
Tech went up 1-0 at the 27:10 mark when Audrea Castaneda found Holly Holod for the goal, but the Saints pulled ahead 3-1 scoring three consecutive times over the next 10 minutes.
The Warriors would go on a run of their own, scoring four of the next five goals capped off with a strike from Aubrie Hazen to give Tech a 5-4 lead with 9:27 remaining in the opening half.
Aquinas continued to play tough though and would battle back to take a 7-6 lead at halftime.
The Warrior defense, led by Nicole Moffat and Kelly Bose, helped swing the momentum early in the second half, causing a big turnover which led to Hazen’s second goal of the afternoon and tied the score. The goal was the first of five straight for the Warriors, who built an 11-7 advantage midway through the second half.
Tech maintained its lead the rest of the way and following Kendall Guthrie’s fourth goal of game, went up 13-9 with 3:15 left to play.
Aquinas countered with a score just over a minute later, but Ashley Elvey came up big for Tech down the stretch making several huge saves to help seal the win.
Guthrie continued her hot start scoring four more goals to lead Indiana Tech while Hazen followed with three. Nikki Rottell added two goals and one assist.
Up next, the Warriors return to Fort Wayne to host Franklin College in their home opener on Sunday, Mar. 17 beginning at 2 p.m.
