Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s soccer team continued their command on the top of the WHAC standings, defeating Cornerstone University 4-1 in the Golden Eagles’ conference opener on Wednesday night at Warrior Field.

The Golden Eagles were posting the highest winning percentage in the WHAC in non-conference play with an overall record of 8-1 going into their first game of conference competition, and the Warriors were in hot pursuit to continue their undefeated record in the conference.

Scoring opened in the 13th minute of play from freshman Megan Perrey (Avon, IN/Avon) with an assist from fellow freshman Tori Singstock (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson). Less than 20 seconds had elapsed before the Warriors’ scored their second goal of the night with a pass from Natalie Zimmerman (Berkley, MI/Berkley) on the outside to Alex Field (Gilberts, IL/Hampshire) who had a well-placed shot over the goalie’s head into the back of the net.

Just before halftime, the Golden Eagles took advantage of a penalty kick from Amanda Van Laar, cutting the Warriors’ lead in half going into halftime.

Both teams seemed to be at a stalemate at the beginning of the second half, with both teams sharing possession, and both sides’ defense staying strong. The Warriors would open scoring once again in the 62nd minute when senior Jenna Rueckert (Lansing, MI/DeWitt) played a ball into the box that eventually found the feet of Singstock who put Tech ahead 3-1.

Zimmerman would wrap up scoring for the night with an 85th minute goal with an assist coming from junior Manuela Cabal (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar). Junior Jordan Roell (Guilford, IN/East Central), the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week, made six saves, and Tori Singstock’s goal added to her already conference-leading total of 10.

The Warriors (11-2-0, 3-0-0) will look to improve on their flawless conference record on Wednesday Oct. 10, when they travel to Detroit, Michigan to take on the Mustangs of Marygrove College.
