Detroit, Mich. – Four different Warriors found the back of the net on Wednesday, including four goals from Tori Singstock (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson), as the Indiana Tech women’s soccer team used a second half explosion en route to an 8-2 win over Marygrove College.
The eight goals were the most by a Tech team in a single game in at least eight years and Singstock’s four tallies were the most by a player in a single game in that same period.
Singstock got the scoring started in the 13th minute after sophomore Natalia Salcedo (Cali, Columbia/Colegio Bolivar) played a ball through to her and she beat the Marygrove keeper on the left side.
In the 24th minute, the Warriors got a pair of goals just 22 seconds apart from Alex Field (Gilberts, IL/Hampshire) and Natalie Zimmerman (Berkley, MI/Berkley) and would take a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
The Warriors struck again early in the second half when Megan Perrey (Avon, IN/Avon) scored the first of her two goals just over five minutes into the period.
With Tech ahead 5-1 in the 71st minute, the Mustangs climbed back into the game with a penalty kick, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Tech tacked on three goals in the final 2:33 of the match to cruise to the victory.
Salcedo and Jess Stanton (East Lansing, MI/East Lansing) finished with two assists while Field, Justine Jost (Ft. Wayne, IN/Huntington), and Rikki Singstock (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson) all recorded one each. Junior keeper Jordan Roell (Guilford, IN/East Central) made eight saves on the day.
Indiana Tech outshot Marygrove 23-14, putting 18 of their 23 shots on target. The Mustangs held a slight edge in corner kicks with five compared to Tech’s four.
Up next, the Warriors (12-2, 4-0 WHAC) visit Davenport University on Saturday, Oct. 13 in a key conference matchup. The two sides are battling for the top spot in the WHAC and both will enter the contest with perfect records in the conference.
