Fort Wayne, Ind. – Megan Perrey (Avon, IN/Avon) will have to wait a few more years for her Senior Day but the standout freshman made sure this year’s group went out with a victory, scoring four times to lead the Indiana Tech women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win over Lawrence Tech on Saturday.
During halftime of the game, Indiana Tech recognized its seniors for their contributions to the team over the years, and in the process helping turn the program into one of the best in the conference.
The Warriors bounced back nicely against Lawrence Tech after dropping their first conference match of the season to Davenport University a week ago, and improved their record to 5-1 in the WHAC and 13-3 overall. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils fell to 0-6 in league play and 2-11 on the year.
Despite dominating possession for the entire first half, the Warriors were kept off the scoreboard for the first 40 minutes. Tech was finally able to break through at the 40:04 mark when junior Austin Wilson (Oswego, IL/Oswego) found Perrey in front of the goal and she slipped a shot past the LTU keeper to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Tech’s defense, anchored by senior China White (Ft. Wayne, IN/Huntington), smothered the Lawrence Tech attack, giving the visitors no chances in the first half.
The Warriors kept the pressure on early in the second period, trying to extend their lead, and were able to do so in the 65th minute. On a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, Natalia Salcedo (Cali, Columbia/Colegio Bolivar) tapped a pass to Tori Singstock (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson) who blasted a shot into the corner of the net putting Tech on top 2-0.
Then the flood gates open as the Warriors added three more goals in the next 4:31 to put the game away. Perrey netted two of the goals to complete the hat-trick while Natalie Zimmerman (Berkley, MI/Berkley) tacked on the fifth goal of the day.
Perrey wasn’t done though, capping off her incredible day with a fourth tally in the 89th minute.
Tech finished the match with a 32-1 shot advantage and had 10 corner kicks to Lawrence Tech’s zero. Perrey and Zimmerman also added an assist each, and goalkeeper Alena Payne made a save on her only chance of the day.
The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they travel to Livonia, Michigan for a conference matchup with the Crusaders of Madonna University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
