Fort Wayne, Ind. – Junior Jess Stanton (East Lansing, MI/East Lansing) scored twice on Saturday to lead the Indiana Tech women’s soccer team to a 5-1 win over Concordia University in the regular season finale on Saturday.
The win, coupled with a Madonna University loss, gave the Warriors the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament. Davenport, who went 8-0 in league play, will be the top-seed.
Stanton got the scoring started for Tech finishing off a pass from Natalie Zimmerman (Berkley, MI/Berkley) at the 13:55 mark.
Seven minutes later, Natalia Salcedo (Cali, Columbia/Colegio Bolivar) put the Warriors up 2-0 with her first goal of the season. From the left side, Salcedo placed a beautiful shot from 20 yards out into the upper corner of the far post, just out of the reach of the Concordia keeper.
Indiana Tech would take a 3-0 lead into halftime after Tori Singstock’s (Southgate, MI/Southgate Anderson) goal in the 33rd minute.
Early in the second period, Zimmerman found Stanton again for her second score of the day.
The Cardinals cut into the lead after scoring on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, but would never get any closer.
Freshman Megan Perrey (Avon, IN/Avon) capped off the victory for the Warriors with a goal in the 86th minute.
Jordan Roell (Guilford, IN/East Central) wasn’t challenged much on the afternoon, but made the big stops when she had to, finishing the match with three saves.
Indiana Tech outshot the visitors 26-9 while Concordia held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
Up next, the Warriors (14-4, 6-2 WHAC) will host Concordia (5-11-1, 1-6-1 WHAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the quarterfinals of the WHAC Tournament. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. If Tech advances, they will face the winner of Aquinas College and Cornerstone University on Saturday, Nov. 3.
