3/21/09 – The Indiana Tech Softball completed their spring trip dropping games to Mt. Vernon Nazarene (OH) and Mt. Mercy (IA). Against Mt. Vernon, the Warriors were locked in a pitching duel as junior Jessica Williams (Seattle, WA / Meadowdale) allowed only 4 hits. Unfortunately for Williams and the Warriors, the Cougars managed to score two runs and the lead held for a 2-0 win. In the second game, it was déjà vu as sophomore Brittany Bingham (Woodbridge, VA / CD Hylton SR) scattered four hits and struck out six but Mt. Mercy squeezed in two runs and held on for a 2-1 victory.
Overall the Warriors finished 5-5 on the spring trip, junior Justine Brandt (Toledo, OH / Cardinal Stritch) led the Warriors in hitting (.486 BA – 17 hits and 10 runs), Bingham was 1-2, 1.31 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 3 complete games. Freshman pitcher Casey Prince (Severn, MD / Mt. DeSales Academy) won her first two games in her collegiate career and finished the week 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA. In addition, freshman Chia Lopez (Valley Center, CA / Valley Center) led the team in RBI’s (9) and slugging pct. (.720) and recorded an inside the park home run!
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, March 24th when they travel to Marion, IN to play Indiana Wesleyan in a doubleheader. First pitch is 3:00pm.
