Pulaski, Tenn. – Indiana Tech sophomore pitcher Taylor Craven was spectacular against Cumberland University, silencing their bats for six innings before the Bulldogs rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh to hand the Warriors a 3-2 loss at the Martin Methodist College Meltdown on Friday.
Cumberland scraped across an unearned run in the top of the first, but Craven and the Warriors settled in holding CU scoreless over the next five innings.
Tech got the run right back though after Patrice Suplicki drove in Martika Armstead with a base hit in the bottom half of the frame.
After a scoreless second, the Warriors jumped ahead in the third. Sofia Johantgen reached on error and after stealing second, crossed the plate on a single up the middle by JC Plezbert.
Tech held their one run lead entering the seventh, but the first five batters of the inning reached base for Cumberland, capped off by a double from Sarah Murray which drove in the go-ahead run. The Warriors then went down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Suplicki collected a pair of hits and an RBI on the day to pace the Tech offense. Craven went 6.0 innings allowing three runs, but only two earned, on just four hits. Tori Kilps pitched an inning of relief and fanned two hitters.
The Warriors will wrap up their trip to Pulaski, Tennessee tomorrow against No. 13 Reinhardt University at 10 a.m. followed by a game against No. 15 Lindsey Wilson College starting at 1 p.m.
