Trinity Christian Box Score | Mount Mercy Box Score

Clermont, Fla. – The Indiana Tech softball team was back in action today for the first time since Mar. 2 on Thursday at the NTC Tournament in Clermont, Florida and the long layoff didn’t affect the Warriors who picked up their first two wins of the season against Trinity Christian College and Mount Mercy University.

In their first game of the day, the Warriors held a 2-1 lead over Trinity Christian heading into the sixth inning, but the Trolls pushed across a run to tie the game. However, Tech loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, and with one out, freshman Jenevie Rivas broke the game open with a grand slam.

The Warriors would add three more runs in the inning and senior pitcher Sam Berrios would work her way out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to secure the win.

Martika Armstead and Cortney Bingham had two hits apiece. Berrios went the distance allowing just one earned run with two strikeouts.

The Warriors picked up right where they left off against Mount Mercy jumping out to an 8-0 lead after an inning and a half. The Mustangs chipped away at the deficit though with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and another run in the third.

Jessica Cotton delivered an RBI double in the fourth to boost Tech’s lead to 9-3, but Mount Mercy kept fighting and plated three more runs fourth and three runs in the sixth to tie the game.

After a scoreless seventh, the teams went to extra innings. With Sofia Johantgen on third, JC Plezbert came through with her third hit of the day, a clutch two-out double to drive home the go-ahead run. Ali Watson then slammed the door shut on the Mustangs in the bottom half of the frame to earn the win.

Plezbert led the way going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Patrice Suplicki, Taylor Craven, and Cotton also had multi-hit games.

The Warriors return to the field on Friday, Mar. 22 for a triple-header. The first game against Merrimack is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. followed by a pair of games against Indiana University-Pennsylvania.
