4/19/09 – Fort Wayne, IN - The Indiana Tech Softball team battled through injuries and the weather but the Warriors never gave up! On Saturday, the Warriors took a moment to honor the seniors that have contributed to the success of the Warrior Softball program. Mallory Harris (Greenfield, IN / Greenfield Central), Rachel Catlin (Riverview, FL / Easy Bay), Brittany Miller (Spencerville, IN / Leo), April Alexander (Tukwila, WA / Franklin) and Allie Glover (Tempe, AZ / McClintock) were recognized in a ceremony prior to the first game against the Madonna Crusaders. Madonna is currently ranked nationally but that didn’t intimidate the Warriors as both teams had their respective pitcher duel on a beautiful sunny afternoon. The Warriors held the advantage thanks to a Brittany Miller solo home run but Madonna fought back and took the game 2-1 in the final inning. In the second game, Madonna and the Warriors were locked in another pitching duel as sophomore Samantha Simpson (Albion, MI / Albion) pitched well but the Crusaders squeezed out another win 2-1 in 8 innings. On Sunday against the UM-Dearborn Wolves, the weather was the polar opposite of Saturday as the temperature dropped 20 degrees, the wind picked up and during the second game, the rain arrived. Despite the less than desirable conditions, the Warriors and Wolves battled back and forth in both games with the Wolves taking the opening game 5-4 and the Warriors outlasting the Wolves in the second game 4-1 in with Miller providing the late game heroics with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning. The Warriors are heading into the final weeks of the season as they look for a final push into the conference playoffs.
