For Immediate Release
Ridgeland, MS – The Belhaven Blazers won a doubleheader against the Indiana Tech Warriors, 8-2 and 9-3. The Warriors were opening their 2010 campaign at Belhaven University as part of the Blazers Bash series.
In the first game, the Warriors tied the game at the top of the third off a Jess Williams’ sac fly but the Blazers scored four in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach despite junior Jenn Anderson (St. Louis, MO / Notre Dame HS) hitting her first home run of the season. Williams took the loss for the Warriors allowing five earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.
In the second game, the Warriors went yard again as Williams scored the first run with a solo blast to center field. The Blazers countered in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead only to have the Warriors tie it in the top half of the third.
The contest stayed tight until the Blazers broke open the game in the fifth inning and sealed it in the sixth. Freshman pitcher Sam Berrios (Wadsworth, IL / Warren Twp.) took the loss allowing 9 hits and 7 runs over 4 innings while striking out 2.
The Warriors had their remaining games at Belhaven cancelled due to the weather and their next scheduled games are February 20th at IU-Southeast (New Albany, IN). The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1:00pm.
