Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a decisive 7-1 win over visiting Adrian College on Friday night at Wildwood Racquet Club.
The win evened the Warriors’ record to 2-2 on the year while Adrian suffered just its second loss of the year, falling to 5-2.
In doubles play, the team of Ana Hernandez (Estado de Mexico, Mexico) and Mounia Sami (Casablanca, Morocco) took No. 1 by a score of 8-5 and Stephanie Perez (Queretaro, Mexico) and Barbara Belli de Oliveira (Campinas, Brazil) won at No. 2 by a mark of 8-1. Tech nearly swept the doubles points, but were narrowly defeated 9-8 (7-3) at No. 3.
Singles play belonged to the Warriors, though, winning every match in straight sets. No. 1 Hernandez downed her opponent 7-5, 6-3, and Perez had no problems at No. 2 winning 6-0, 6-1. Sami and Oliveira followed with victories at No.3 and No. 4, respectively. Ashley Benvenuti (Livonia, MI/Stevenson) picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5.
The Warriors return to action on Feb. 17 when they visit Trine University.
