Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s tennis team fell to Aquinas College 7-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener on Thursday afternoon at Wildwood Racquet Club.
The loss dropped Tech to 3-5 on the year and 0-1 in the WHAC while Aquinas improved to 9-6 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Aquinas swept all three doubles flights to begin the day. At No. 1 doubles, Ana Hernandez and Mounia Sami kept it close but were edged out 8-6. Stephanie Perez and Barbara Belli de Oliveira nearly pulled out the win, but were also beaten by a final score of 8-6.
Sami and Perez earned points for the Warriors in singles competition at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Sami defeated Ariana Kabodian 6-1, 6-3 and Perez knocked off Rilie DuShane in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. At No. 1 singles, Hernandez played very well but was outlasted 6-4, 6-4.
The Warriors will travel to Huntington University on Wednesday, Mar. 20. The match is schedule to start at 4 p.m.
